It was that time of the baseball season when all of the previous regular season records are thrown out of the window. All of their efforts have paid off, as every team making the playoffs has to feel some since of satisfaction extending their season. On this day, the fifth seeded Shawnee Renegades were hosting the Mustangs from Triton High School. Sean Doolittle has his work cut out for him as he faced a Triton team looking to keep their winning streak in tack. The junior starting pitcher was able to keep the Mustangs in check when it counted to help Shawnee advance to the next round with their 6-4 victory.
The twelfth seeded Mustangs were riding a successful seven game winning streak that was the main reason they were able to compete in the first round. A slow start is nothing new to Triton as they have demonstrated how patience can be a virtue. Impatiently, Shawnee had other ideas as they scored runs during their first three at bats.
The Renegades score two runs in the first inning, one in the second and their third run off of Mike Ferrara solo homer in the third. Doolittle not only contributed with is arm on the mound, his bat accounted for two more runs in the fourth when his double scored two giving the Renegades a 6-0 advantage. Finally during the top of the fifth inning, Triton’s bat came alive. Jon McClain highlighted the inning with a single that drove in two runs. When the inning was done, four runs were scored. Unfortunately, that would be the end of the scoring in this game as the Renegades move on to the second round of the South Jersey Group 4 playoffs.
