As usual, when teams enter the playoffs, every aspect of play gets turned up a notch. Rivalries get even more intense. Even though Shawnee defeated Eastern 10-3 in their regular season meeting on April 30th, both teams knew this would be a different game.
Shawnee came out fast and furious as usual, scoring three unaswered goals in the first 5 minutes. After calling a timeout, Eastern restarted their offense and was able to get on the board. But the Lady Renegades owned the first half, leading 10-5 at the break.
In the second half, the Lady Vikings fought their way back, keeping up the pressure as they matched Shawnee score for score. Midway through the half, the furious play caused Shawnee Coach Sue Rudderow to remark, "this is the closest 13-6 game I've ever seen". But Eastern was not able to overcome their first half performance, as Shawnee advanced to the next round with a final score of 16-11. The Lady Renegades will next play undefeated Jackson for the South Jersey A title.
Scoring: Shawnee - Erica Durst 4, Stephanie Janice 3, Jamie Farewell 3, Lindsay Calla 2, Annie Marchitello 2, Kierstan Carlson 1, Jackie Yovankin 1. Eastern - Sarah Dawson 3, Alana Vivolo 3, Shaun Banta 2, Mary Beth Miller 1, Casey McCrudden 1, #36 1.
