Casey Sherman scored two goals and Jeff Suphin stopped all eighteen shots as Shawnee shocked defending champion Clearview 5-0. Chris Jennings scored in the games first minute on a slap shot to grab the early 1-0 lead. Shawnee would use its size throughout the game and won rather easily. Sherman scored a power play goal midway through the period to make it 2-0. In fairness to Clearview they were missing some top players including Mike and David Gooch and goaltender Jared Weisenbach.
John McGinnis scored a goal late in the first to make it 3-0. Shawnee and Clearview could only generate six shots for the period. With both teams killing penalties throughout the second period, neither team capitalized until late in the period when right at the end of a man advantage Sherman jammed home a rebound to make it 4-0. The lone highlight for Clearview was supplied by manager Larry Meenan who for the first time in league history was able to convince a referee to change his mind. Initially Meenan was ejected for arguing a call but after stating his case the call was changed, a first in any sport. Codianni closed out the scoring early in the third as Shawnee made its case to be considered one of the top teams.
