High School Ice Hockey: Monday, October 18, 1999
By Mike Costantino Shawnee defeated St. John Neumann 6-1 in a SJHSIHL game played at the Coliseum on Monday night. Despite being undersized and moving up from Tier 2 to Tier 1, the Pirates were only down 2-1 with four minutes left in the second period. Shawnee's Williams scored the first two goals of the game, one shorthanded as Shawnee led 2-0 heading into the second period. Carmen Juliano scored for Neumann in the first five minutes of period two with Jim Porreca and Pete Klukiewski assisting and it was 2-1. With just over three minutes left in the period, Szabatura would score his first of two goals for Shawnee and the period would end 3-1. Neumann seemed to be worn down as the third period began, and early in the period Williams would score his third goal to make it 4-1. Late goals by Kudatzky and Szabatura would seal the game for Shawnee at 6-1.
