High School Track & Field: Tuesday, March 30, 1999
By Art Redd Arthur P. Schalick High School starts off the 1999 Boys and Girls Track & Field Program on a winning note. Each team had strong seasons last year and hopes to return to the success they achieved in the Group 2 Tri-County Conference. Schalick High School is located in Pittsgrove Township, Salem County. Boy's Track & Field Preview: Coach Steve Pierangeli (overall record is 27-5) returns with assistant coaches Mike Hars, Jamie Bagley, Dale Driver and John Williams for his fifth season. Their 1998 highlights include a 7-1 record which lead to their 3rd straight Tri-County Classic Divisional Championship, 2nd place Salem County Championship, several qualifiers in the Group 2 and Meet of Champions competitions. Even though the track and field team has lost Arsean Cannon, Adam Keech, Jason Manno and Bryce Shedlock to graduation, the coaching staff still has several returning lettermen to continue on their winning ways in the 1999 season. Newcomers: Senior Jason Harris; Juniors Matt Basilone and Rich Kurtz; Sophomores David Hague and George Jackson; Freshmen Matt Cerefie, Jeff Caudill, Jason Copare, Ricky Eisinger, Darren Harris, Ryan Harris, Aaron Hill, Chris Kabachinski, Zach Kouhoupt, Ajay Metha, Matt Poolake, Bill Singiser, Joe Szalay and Andrew Swinton. Girl's Track & Field Preview: Coach Mark Boyle returns in the 1999 season with twenty-one returning starters. Last year his team finished with an 8-0 record. Captains are Aisha Morgan (Senior), Cherie Thompson (Senior), Dana Emmons (Junior) and Marissa Brown (Junior). Morgan finished last year 2nd in the 100 meters, 3rd in the 200 meters Meet of Champions.
