There were eight games scheduled on the first day of high school ice hockey in our area and in all of those games, it was a brand new season of high hopes. Last year the Red Devils loss in the semi-finals to Eastern and were looking to start off the season with a win. Aaron Smith scored twice and Kevin Kraft stopped 31 shots as Rancocas Valley defeated Paul VI 4-0 in their season opener at the Skate Zone in Voorhees.
Paul VI spent more than half the game on the power play, and at one point there were six consecutive penalties called on Rancocas, from midway thru the second period until early in the third period, but Paul VI was unable to convert. In all they were 0-12 on the power play, and Kraft played a large part in keeping them off the scoreboard. With a strong nucleus back from last year, the Eagles will make some noise as the season progresses.
