Kevin Kraft was strong in goal and Ryan Smith scored late in the second period as Rancocas Valley edged Clearview 3-2 to remain unbeaten in the double elimination tournament and will move on to face Eastern on Monday night. Jeff Sporer and Tom Fritz exchanged goals in the first period, Sporer scoring on a short-handed breakaway and Fritz jamming home a power play goal. Matt Sansoni went top shelf early in the second period to put Rancocas ahead 2-1, actually, they never trailed in the game and are playing sound defensive hockey.
After Nick Kesarewich tied the game for Clearview, Smith broke in and his quick shot found the net and Rancocas led 3-2 heading into the third period. Kraft came up big in the third period as on two separate occasions Clearview had a two-man advantage, but Kraft did not give up any rebounds and Rancocas led by defenseman Ray Mellon, kept Clearview off the board.
Notes: The winner of the game between Rancocas and Eastern will be in the driver seat for the championship, since that team will not have a loss in the tournament. Should be a packed house at Voorhees as Rancocas had a strong showing at the gate in last night’s game.
