Pennsauken Takes Advantage of Turnovers

Saturday, September 16, 2006

By Jerome Michaels
SJSports Special Correspondent

The way this game which featured the Pennsauken Indians hosting the Red Devils from Rancocas Valley started out, the Indians appeared to be in full control with the defense forcing their opponent to turn the ball over. The offense would convert those turnovers to twenty points and the Indians’ defense would dominate the early moments. The Red Devils would battle back for twenty points of their own during the second quarter and reduce their deficit to just six points at the start of the second half. Pennsauken would then score a third quarter touchdown and the defense would not give up a single point during the remainder of this game. Pennsauken would pick up their second win of the season with their 32-20 win to remain undefeated through two games.

By Vincent Lewis
SJSports Staff Writer

Seven penalties, seven goals and eight assists all during the third period alone highlighted the ice hockey game played at Hollydell Ice Arena Friday night. Six of those goals that were scored during that period were short handed according to the scorer's sheet. Both Rancocas Valley and Clearview were trying to extend their season as they participated in this single elimination game. These two teams were bounced out of the winner's bracket with a loss and had to battle it out on the ice looking to advance their way toward the finals. A five goal explosion by Clearview would be the difference in this game. Goalie Chuck Storms would save 26 of 29 shot attempts helping Clearview to their 7-3 victory.

Tuesday, October 18, 2005

By Jerome Michaels

It was a perfect day to hang outdoors and enjoy the wonderful weather we were having in the month of October. There were quite a few people doing just that in Delran watching two very closely matched boy's soccer teams compete in a Burlington County League game. The Bears from Delran were hosting Rancocas Valley and would play out to be an important game for both teams. After the first half had ended in a scoreless tie, Delran would score the only goal of the game when leading scorer Tommy Orr deposited the ball into the net. With the home crowd still buzzing with jubilance, Orr would suffer a leg injured that kept him out of the game. Delran would remain undefeated winning its eleventh game of the season.

One Inning Enough for Sweeney

Thursday, June 2, 2005

By Stephanie Wright
SJSports Special Correspondent

Lisa Sweeney’s softball career so far has been extremely impressive. If there was a scouting report to study on how to defeat the Red Devils, it all starts with scoring runs against Rancocas Valley’s senior pitcher. Third seeded Jackson was visiting the top seeded Red Devils looking for a way to defeat Rancocas Valley and pick up the Central Jersey Group 4 title. But for the entire season, Rancocas Valley knew that they didn’t need to score many runs to decide the outcome of the game. Kerstin Briggs delivered the key hit during the fourth inning scoring the only two runs needed for Rancocas Valley to pick up the title over Jackson.

Mouse Lifts Greyhounds Past RV with Homerun

Thursday, April 14, 2005

By Crystal Parker

While most of us were facing that tax deadline that seems to come out of nowhere, the same could be said about Northern Burlington’s luck with Rancocas Valley. Lisa Sweeney has been un-hittable for quite some time when facing the Greyhounds. Every scheduled game is marked on the calendar knowing that the Red Devils was that team to beat. This year was different as this extra inning softball game was decided by Lyndsay Mouse’s home run in the bottom of the tenth inning. With a runner on base, the dramatic ending of a 3-1 victory for Northern Burlington saw the softball sail over the left center fence.
