There were only two teams representing the South Jersey area in this year's State Group 1 girl's soccer bracket. Those teams were Cinnaminson and Pennsville. The Pirates lost in the first round, avoiding a matchup with Pennsville in the quarterfinals. The Lady Eagles on the other hand made it to the finals against Glen Rock. Both teams scored in the first half, but the defenses highlighted the rest of this competition. Keeper Paige Yeich was spectacular in goal for the Lady Eagles as this title game ended with a share of state championship crown.
Pennsville (18-1-1) jumped out to a 1-0 lead on Jamie Mundell's goal. At the 30:41 mark, her shot went over keeper Sarah Volkomer's reach as she moved in to stop the shot. Now with a one-deficit goal, Glen Rock kept up their intensity as they were determined to even the score. Their efforts paid off with 10:06 remaining in the half with Danielle Patoir founding the net on her shot to tie this game at one all. It looked as if Glen Rock had the advantage from then on but the defense kept strong. Through the two 10-minute overtime periods, Yeich passed every test keeping the game scoreless.
