Monday, February 26, 2007 By Joyce Sagerty There's something to say about playoff basketball in how the level of competitiveness on the court creates an excitement enjoyable for all fans in attendance. The Cherokee Chiefs were hosting the Lady Indians from Pennsauken during the first round of the South Jersey Group IV girls' basketball tournament. What appeared during the early moments of this game as if the Lady Chiefs would have an easy time against the fifteen seeded Indians, Pennsauken just would not give up and worked their way back into this game at the end of the first quarter. But as this game when on, the second seeded Chiefs' defense set the tone for the rest of this game. Cherokee held their opponent to nine points through the second and third quarters and cruised to a 71-41 victory. |

Thursday, January 11, 2007 By Susan Hall In the world of sports, people are always making predictions on the outcome of a particular game. On the high school level, fans of the game analyze their reasons why the finals score of the game will be determined by their supporting facts. Players on the court do their best to ignore all of the predictions and try to concentrate on playing the game. In an Olympic Conference American Division girls' basketball game between Cherry Hill East traveling to Pennsuaken, Vianca Tajeda would help the Lady Cougars determine the outcome of this game with her effort on the court. Tajeda not only sent this game into overtime with a buzzer-beater three pointer, the Cougars would also rally around her and secure a 67-63 double overtime win over Pennsauken. |

Saturday, November 4, 2006 By Jerome Michaels Pennsauken has had its share of good and bad times during this season that begun with high hopes and a chance at a group title. Six games into their season, the Indians found themselves in a football game that they had to win in order to qualify for the playoffs. The Chiefs from Cherokee had only one loss on the season and they were on their way to another win leading at the break by a touchdown. A second half comeback lead by led by Wendell Johnson's two rushing touchdowns gave Pennsauken a lead late in the game. The Chiefs had the ball late in the game with a chance to tie it but an interception by the defense would be able to preserve the win. The Indians' 22-14 win over Cherokee has secured them a position in the upcoming South Jersey Group IV playoffs. |

Thursday, November 2, 2006 By Stephanie Wright With the regular season coming to an end, there are a few regular season field hockey games that have to be played. The way this area has been experiencing unseasonable warm weather, players and fans of all ages didn't mind enjoying outdoor events. Today, the Cougars from Cherry Hill East traveled to Pennsauken to take on the Indians. The Cougars had secured a position in the postseason while Pennsauken was looking to end the season on a winning note. Cherry Hill East would control this game and during the final moments of the game, the Lady Cougars would celebrate their 2-1 victory. |

Tuesday, October 3, 2006 By George Brookings In the Olympic Conference Patriot Division, every team by now knows that the Renegades from Shawnee's boys' soccer team have started out this season undefeated through nine games. Every game on their schedule, especially against teams from that division, is important to come away with the win and stay above five hundred percentage record. That scenario would set up today's match up between the Mustangs from Triton hosting Pennsauken. The Mustangs would score three times during the first half and led by two at the break. Pennsauken's efforts would come up short during the second half and Triton would pick up the 4-3 victory and earn an important division win. |

Friday, September 29, 2006 By George Brookings After each game is played, the coaching staff is responsible for reviewing the good and the bad plays in order to improve on areas that need to be addressed. The Indians from Pennsauken would get their chance against Lenape in order to continue to keep their undefeated record in tact. The coaching staff of Pennsauken would be proud as their running and passing game was able to produce points on the scoreboard. Wendell Johnson scored two rushing touchdowns and quarterback Keith Jones threw for two scores and Pennsauken would pick up their third win in a row with their 33-7 victory Friday night at Lenape. |

Saturday, September 16, 2006 By Jerome Michaels The way this game which featured the Pennsauken Indians hosting the Red Devils from Rancocas Valley started out, the Indians appeared to be in full control with the defense forcing their opponent to turn the ball over. The offense would convert those turnovers to twenty points and the Indians’ defense would dominate the early moments. The Red Devils would battle back for twenty points of their own during the second quarter and reduce their deficit to just six points at the start of the second half. Pennsauken would then score a third quarter touchdown and the defense would not give up a single point during the remainder of this game. Pennsauken would pick up their second win of the season with their 32-20 win to remain undefeated through two games. |

Tuesday, September 12, 2006 By Joyce Sagerty Soccer is that game, as all of us soccer fans know, where each member on the field plays an important role in the success of scoring a goal. No one player can do it alone and the entire team must work together according to the game plan and achieve the goal of putting the ball into the net. Both teams, the Lady Indians from Pennsauken traveling to Triton to take on the Mustangs, were unable to get past the defense during the first half. It wasn’t until the second half that Triton was able to score the first and only goal of this game. In their 1-0 victory on the road, goal keeper Amy Ferrara would preserve the shutout in goal for Triton. |

Monday, April 17, 2006 By Joyce Sagerty The Olympic Conference is loaded with talented players all trying to accomplish their individual goals for their team. No one team has totally run away from the rest in their division leaving the door wide open for each and every team to make some sort of movement toward the top. When starting pitcher Alex Rocco got the call for Bishop Eustace, her goal would be to keep visiting Pennsauken from getting batters on base as much as possible limiting any major rallies. The Crusaders' defense were able to provide plenty of support for Rocco as Bishop Eustace posted a 5-1 victory in an inter-division match up. |

Saturday, November 12, 2005 By Jason Brown It has been two years since the last time Pennsauken qualified for the playoffs and during that last appearance, they were the lower seed and loss in the first round. This year under different circumstances, the Indians were hosting the Vikings from Atlantic City in a South Jersey Group IV game as the second seed. Pennsauken were known for their running game behind Robert Darby, but it would be the defense that highlighted this game. For three quarters, the Indians kept Atlantic City off the scoreboard while the rushing attack began to find those wholes to run through. By the time the game ended, Pennsauken had gained over two hundred yards on the ground and advance to the next round with their 25-7 victory. Next up for Pennsauken is another home game against Absegami. |

Monday, October 24, 2005 By Joyce Sagerty It was windy, cold and a treat of rain in the area in Pennsauken and it looked like any outdoor event would not take place. With the threat of tropical storm Wilma coming up from the South, Overbrook’s girl’s soccer team would arrive at Pennsauken High School to participate in a non league competition. It was close to the end of the season for both teams, but that didn’t stop these girls from competing on the field. The Lady Indians would take full control of this game from the start and pick up the victory by a 5-0 margin. |

Friday, September 30, 2005 By Susan Hall When looking at the standings for the Olympic Conference Patriot Division, it's not that hard to assume that the team with the winning record should defeat the team with the losing record. On this day, Pennsauken would be looking to end a seven game losing streak while Triton was seeking their fourth victory in the division. The Lady Mustangs would keep the pressure on Pennsauken's goalie Elise Graham who came up with some big saves in this game. Both teams could only score a goal apiece and Triton and Pennsauken would end up in a one all tie. |

Saturday, September 24, 2005 By Gregory White On what turned out to be a perfect day to play football, the Pennsauken High School football team put on a display that could go down as one for the ages. They clicked on all cylinders for most of the game, and dare I say dominated another really good football squad. Don’t get me wrong, Washington Township did not come in and just roll over they competed the whole game and the athletes and coaches should be commended for their effort. |
