High School Basketball: Wednesday, December 27, 2006 By Stephanie Wright The Lady Panthers from Pitman coaching staff were having success at putting their players in the right situations to win games. It's always nice for a team to start out a new season competitively and that's what Pitman has been doing. Mary Beato and Chayle McFaull has been leading the way in scoring for the Panthers and they would continue helping their team post wins. In their game at home against Overbrook, Pitman jumped out to a double digit lead and never looked back. The Panthers would post a 61-48 victory and extend their winning streak to four games in a row. |
High School Soccer: Tuesday, September 19, 2006 By Joyce Sagerty It's that time of the year when the last days of warm weather are upon us and you can find most outside enjoying it. Also taking advantage of their opportunities were the Lady Spartans from Deptford girls’ soccer team. The Spartans were hosting a young Overbrook team with a lot of determination and speed. Deptford would start out this game controlling the play and take a two goal lead at the break. During the second half of this Tri-County Conference Royal Division game, it was all Deptford and they would post a 7-1 victory for their third win of this young season. Kim Barger scored three goals for the Lady Spartans. |
High School Soccer: Monday, September 11, 2006 By Boog Powell Glassboro improves their team record to 2-0 by defeating Overbook (Opening game) 3-0. Glassboro's striker Rebecca Stockl scored the first 2 goals of the game in the first half. This led the Lady Bulldogs to a 2-0 lead at the half. Overbrook's keeper Stefanie Stone kept the Lady Rams in the game with some key saves. In the second half, Kayla Seymore, Glassboro's left defender scored off of a corner kick late in the half. The kick came from the right corner and went pass the left post. The ball was bouncing around until Seymore volleyed it into the back of the net. Glassboro's keeper Brittany Johnson had 7 saves for the shutout, while Stone, Overbrook, had 18 saves. |
High School Football: Saturday, September 9, 2006 By G. Davis On Friday and Saturday, September 8 and 9, the Pine Hill Board of Education and Overbrook Varsity Club held a Dinner and Dedication Ceremony in honor of Coach Larry Mauriello. As of September 9th, the Overbrook High School Varsity Football Field will become the Larry Mauriello Varsity Football Complex. It is particularly fitting that we honor Coach Mauriello in this manner as an acknowledgement of his numerous contributions made as the head coach of the Overbrook High School Football Program. During his reign, the team has won 156 games, two Conference Championships, and one State Championship. However, Coach Mauriello’s dedication to the Overbrook High School has extended beyond the sport of football. |
High School Softball: Thursday, June 1, 2006 By Susan Hall The road to the group finals would have been a Cinderella story for either of these two teams. For Haddon Township and Overbrook, neither one of these teams were supposed to have advanced past the higher seeds to participate in the group finals, let alone win it. This year's run at the South Jersey Group 2 softball title proves that no matter what your regular season record may be, qualifying for the tournaments gives a team one chance at being the best. Haddon Township's late lead was erased by the Lady Rams to send this championship game into extra innings. It would take a two out hit by Brianne Moore during the bottom of the ninth inning to give Haddon Township the 3-2 victory and the group title. |
High School Wrestling: Saturday, January 7, 2006 By Anthony Phillips This weekend at Overbrook High School, the highly ranked Dragons from Kingsway entered the gymnasium to participate in a double match hosted by the Rams. Overbrook quickly fell victim to Kingsway's superior strength and were ready to do the same to Lower Cape May. The second match of the day also saw Kingsway coming away with the win which led to the last match of the day. Both the Tigers from Lower Cape May and Overbrook wanted to end the day with a win. After six bouts were completed and the match tied, the Tigers would record seven consecutive pins to sweep Overbrook away with the win. The final score reflected Lower Cape May determination to pick up the 54-12 decision allow them to walk off the mat with a win. |
High School Soccer: Monday, October 24, 2005 By Joyce Sagerty It was windy, cold and a treat of rain in the area in Pennsauken and it looked like any outdoor event would not take place. With the threat of tropical storm Wilma coming up from the South, Overbrook’s girl’s soccer team would arrive at Pennsauken High School to participate in a non league competition. It was close to the end of the season for both teams, but that didn’t stop these girls from competing on the field. The Lady Indians would take full control of this game from the start and pick up the victory by a 5-0 margin. |
High School Field Hockey: Thursday, October 6, 2005 By Evonne Vaughn Two teams took the field today with the confidence of picking up their first win of the season. Overbrook and Lindenwold were those two teams participating in a non-league field hockey game held at Lindenwold High School. Earlier in the week, the Lady Rams from Overbrook suffered a one goal loss in a game that could have gone either way. Lindenwold had played a strong game against powerhouse West Deptford on Tuesday but could not pick up the win. Against Overbrook, the Lady Lions would stay one step ahead in this fast moving, intense but exhausting game. Lisa Darji would score a second half goal to defeat Overbrook by a final score of 1-0. |
High School Football: Saturday, September 17, 2005 By Vincent Lewis Saturday's match-up between Salem and Overbrook turned out to be exactly what each team's nickname represented. For three quarters, both teams were striking against each other with a heavy and forceful impact. Driving and forcing passage in order to plow through to get into a designated place. There are various definitions for the word Ram and Salem and Overbrook were demonstrated that word for the entire game. This Tri-Country Conference game was deadlocked at fourteen apiece at the start of the fourth quarter. Brandon Robbins would score his second touchdown of the day to break that tie and eventually lead the Salem Rams to a 29-14 victory over the Overbrook Rams. |
High School Field Hockey: Friday, September 16, 2005 By Joyce Sagerty The Lady Mustangs from Triton knew it was going to be a tough beginning to their field hockey season. With their first three games being played away from their home field, Triton would be matched up against Shawnee, Cherokee and Pennsauken. Looking for that change of scenery and the comforts of home, the Mustangs would take on the Rams from Overbrook in a non-league game. One goal was more than enough as four different players scored goals for Triton to shutout Overbrook. Keeper Jessica DeChristopher would not allow a goal in this game. |
High School Soccer: Tuesday, September 13, 2005 By Boog Williams Gloucester Catholic High School girls' soccer team rolled to a 6-0 win against Overbrook in a Tri-County Conference Royal Division match. Gloucester Catholic dominated the game with great passing. You could hear the Overbrook fan's saying do our girls ever get to touch the ball. Some were talking about how they (Catholic) always had the triangle set up to give great passes. |
High School Softball: Wednesday, May 4, 2005 By Susan Hall So far this season, Overbrook has been doing everything they need to do in order to stay ahead of the rest of the teams from the Tri-County Conference Royal Division. Their success on the softball field has rewarded the Lady Rams with winning eight straight games which included a win on Monday over the determined Pioneers from Clearview. Competing in their four straight divisional game, the Rams’ Kerri Procida would watch the defense come up with some spectacular plays both in the infield and outfield not only keeping Highland off the scoreboard, but also preserving a no hitter. Overbrook would extend their winning streak with their 5-0 victory at home. |
High School Baseball: Saturday, April 23, 2005 By Jason Brown This year was another chance for Overbrook to repeat as champions of the Hammonton Baseball Tournament. It would be a good start as they took on the host Blue Devils in the preliminary round. The Rams’ players were successful finding open spaces as the team finished the game with sixteen hits. Rams starting pitcher Jim Birmingham watched his team score five runs in the first two innings and that was more than enough to advance to the final round with their 13-1 victory. But the championship game against Ewing was a different story as the defense was victimized by six errors in a 10-7 loss. |
High School Football: Saturday, September 18, 2004 By Gregory "Graig" White On a day when the Overbrook High School Rams played against the Salem High School Rams, this headline wouldn't go wrong. But on a day that saw both teams compete for every inch of the field, the headline just doesn't tell the story. Salem playing without one of its biggest guns Lamont Robinson, who is on the road to recovery from an auto accident suffered over the summer, had to find a way to replace all that he brings to the team. Coach Lindenmuth didn't find one replacement, he found a group of guys who were fully prepared to step up and accept the challenge that not having Robinson in the lineup presented. |
