High School Soccer: Friday, October 22, 2004 By Stephanie Wright Each year the coaching staff is looking for ways to improve their team's success. Our Lady of Mercy had qualified for this year's post season's playoff and was looking for more. After a one goal victory over Buena two days ago, the Villagers' Meghan Zapeic did not allow a single goal enter the net against St. Joseph. All of the scoring happened in the second half with Maria Grady and Caitlin Hess each scoring twice to lead Our Lady of Mercy to a 4-0 victory. The Villagers have proved that they can win the close game. Buena and Our Lady two days ago were deadlocked at two goals apiece with time winding down. That’s when freshman Marybeth Scharle scored the winning goal with just over a minute remaining in the game giving her team the win. Zapeic again came up with 15 big saves as they continue to improve on ways to come up with the wins. Against last year’s Cape-Atlantic Conference National Division II winners, Our Lady and St. Joseph battled to a scoreless tie after one half. It wasn’t until the second half that the Villagers broke the game open. Hess and Grady each earned an assist in their goals and Bonnie Wessler and Jill Bernadini recorded the other assists. |
