OLMA Rallies in Second Half to Win in Overtime

The girl’s soccer team from Our Lady of Mercy Academy has gotten off to a good start winning five of their first six games. So far this season, the team has been successful in taking advantage of their opportunities. Those scoring chances have turned into goals and then into victories. In today’s game against the Lady Panthers from Middle Township, OLMA completely out shot the Panthers by a 28-7 margin but were trailing by two goals heading into the second half. Two goals in the second have allowed OLMA to extend this Cape-Atlantic Conference game to one more deciding period. Maria Grady would score her 11th goal of the season in overtime to give OLMA the 3-2 come from behind victory.

The Panthers were looking to pick up their second win of the season and they were well on their way in the first half. Township only had four shots on goal during the half, but two of them found the net. Tara Davies was that player scoring twice giving her team the advantage at halftime.

Fifteen shots on goal, but nothing to show for it on the scoreboard didn’t slow down OLMA’s assault. This time, Jenn Woldon not only scored once to cut the lead in half, but scored twice to tie the game. Grady assisted Woldon on the first goal and the second was scored on a penalty kick. During the overtime period, Grady’s goal completed the comeback to increase their record to 6-1 for the season.
