When looking at any group playoff brackets for the first round, the game that usually stands out is the fourth seed versus the fifth seed. Viewed as an evenly matched game with both teams possession the talent to win, Moorestown hosting Deptford proved to be a competitive game...for as least one half. Runningback Albert Young proved to be the difference in the second half as Moorestown (8-1) scored 17 unanswered points to pull away from Deptford. The fourth seeded Quakers posted a 31-7 victory to the South Jersey Group 3 semi-final round against the top-seeded Delsea.
The first half of this game looked to be a high scoring contest with both teams able to march down the field. Deptford (7-2) would not be able to take advantage of their field position coming up with no points. Surprisingly, the Quakers went to the air with success to set up the game's first point in the first quarter. Quarterback Matt Hegarty connected with Derrick Faulkner for a 19-yard touchdown reception and Moorestown would take that 7-0 lead into the half.
In the second half, it was all Young as he broke through the defensive line and into the secondary for a 65-yard touchdown run. Deptford finally got on the scoreboard in the third quarter when Robert Bartley scored from 2-yards out and trailed 14-7. Young almost scored his second touchdown of the quarter when he ripped off 70-yards. He finally got into the endzone scoring from 5-yards and this game was well out of reach. Young added another fourth quarter touchdown to go along with a field goal to finish the scoring in this game.
