Anthony Fendrick had two goals and an assist to lead the Moorestown Quakes to a 5-3 victory over Lenape in Game 1 of the Tier 2 semi-finals at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. In their first year in the league, Moorestown showed no signs of nervousness and kept their composure after Lenape took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Mike Amato late in the first period. Moments later Fendrick tied the score at 1-1, re-directing a point shot by defenseman Stosh Bangs, who was a stalwart on defense for the Quakes.
Lenape, bouncing back after a tough year last season but a team with grit and toughness under new coach Joe Blair, regained the lead early in the second period as Steve Mac Donnell went end-to-end to give the Indians a 2-1 lead. Moorestown tied the game when JT Hooper picked off an errant pass and fed Fendrick in front of the net and his goal knotted the score at 2-2. Moorestown took the lead for good scoring on the power play when Fendrick hit Bangs with a pass from behind the net and his blast through a screen found its way into the net and Moorestown led 3-2.
Chris Frynewicz made it 4-2, again on the power play as he was left all alone in front and had time to fake the goalie and slide the puck into the net. Chris Fludder cut the lead to 4-3 with just over six minutes left in the game, but Lenape despite pulling the goalie in the final minute never got a good scoring chance and Greg Custer added an empty net goal for the 5-3 final. Game 2 is Monday at Voorhees.
