High School Girls Lacrosse: Thursday, May 24, 2001
By Gary Steiner The blue skies made it a great day to play lacrosse after so many days of clouds and rain. The Lady Quakers of Moorestown (19-0) ended up raining goals on the Moorestown Friends Lady Foxes (10-3) to win this second round game 19-2. Moorestown wil play Camden Catholic (who defeated St. John Vianney 17-7) next in their pursuit to repeat as state champions. The Lady Foxes had convincingly defeated Red Bank Catholic 8-1 in a first round game. The Lady Quakers were looking to extend their 40 game win streak after sitting out in a first round bye. This idle time did not seem to affect them at all, as Moorestown came out scoring when Lisa Reindl put one in just 45 seconds into the game. She was quickly followed by a score from Colleeen Dalon and then two from Courtney Legath. The Foxes were finally able to slow things down, and spent their share of time around the Lady Quaker goal, but could not get through the stingy defense. After about eight minutes of struggle, Moorestown again scored, this time from the stick of Sara Shelley followed thirty seconds later by Reindl's second goal. The Lady Foxes were finally able to put one in when Yewande Fajolu scored from a free position at the 9:19 mark. But this did nothing to deter the Lady Quaker offense, as 22 seconds later Ally Zeitz scored her first. Moorestown would score five more times to take a 14-1 lead at the half. The second half became academic, though the sun and heat helped wear down the players to slow the tempo down, thus the final 19-2 score. Scoring: Moorestown - Courtney Legath 5, Colleen Dalon 4, Lisa Reindl 2, Sara Shelley 2, Ally Zeitz 2, Lauren Bower 1, Casey Cech 1, Gen Grossman 1, Kelley Putnam 1. Moorestown Friends - Yewande Fajolu 2. Saves: Moorestown - Jackie Kushner 5, Amy Wright 1. Moorestown Friends - Carol Dixon 13. Photos by Art Redd
