High School Lacrosse: Tuesday, April 13, 1999
By Gary Steiner The Collingswood Lady Panthers were riding high coming off of their big 16-10 upset win over Cherokee in their opener, followed by a 16-3 defeat of Maple Shade. So the Cougars were again thinking upset as they visited Moorestown on Tuesday. However, the Lady Quakers had other ideas, putting on a clinic in the first half by going up 11-2, then coming away with the 15-7 victory. Collingswood scored first as Kim Feeley put one in at the 19:34 mark. But Moorestown's Courtney Legath responded less than a minute later with her first goal, followed by another at 16:36 to put the Lady Quakers ahead for good. After scores by Jenna Walsh, Legath, and two by Kateri Linville to make it 6-1, Collingswood called a time-out at the 6:50 mark. But the clinic continued 19 seconds after play resumed as Kate Slotman scored, followed by Sara Shelley, Kelly Darling, Slotman, and Linville. Moorestown's size may have been to their advantage, enabling them to force Collingswood to commit turnovers. Collingswood was finally able to score for their second goal when Liz Frengs put one in off of a free position, making it 11-2. In the second half, the pace slowed down somewhat, but Moorestown kept up the offensive pressure. Kateri Linville scored her fourth goal of the game to open the half. The Panthers responded with two goals from Lisa Hagan. This seemed to get the Collingswood fans going on the sidelines, who didn't have much to cheer about up to this point. But the Quakers then responded with two goals from Kate Slotman, her third and fourth of the game. Six minutes would go by before another goal was scored, this time from Collingswood's Liz Frengs off of a free position. Less than a minute later, Jenna Walsh flipped a touch pass into the net for her second goal of the game. Collingswood would round out the scoring with Lisa Hagan's third goal of the game, and one from Alex McCleveland with 12 seconds left to make the final score 15-7. Photos by Art Redd
