High School Basketball (Playoffs): Tuesday, March 3, 1998
By Art Redd Moorestown didn't have any problems with Kingsway in their opening round playoff game. The Quakers jumped out to a 15-4 first quarter score and cruised to a 19-point victory. Kingsway was forced to shoot mostly perimeter shots with Moorestown's tight 2-3 defense. The Dragons could not convert on most of their outside shots which made it extremely hard to stage a comeback against Moorestown. This was just a tune-up game for the Quakers where they would travel to a much tougher West Deptford team in the quarterfinals. The home crowd enjoyed every minute of the 58-37 Moorestown victory. Matt Pedrick dominated the inside game snatching down offensive rebounds and converting the second chance shots into points for the Quakers. His teammate Justin Lewis was also a force to deal with on the boards. With that tandem, Moorestown would go up 30-15 at the break. The Quakers would open up the lead even further in the second half with the same game plan as in the first. Keenan Cannadays of Kingsway would tried to stage a comeback in the second half but the lead was too much to make up. Moorestown's first round win sends them to the next round of the Group 2 South Jersey Tournament. With the way the Quakers team faired in the first round, they looked like a team who would go a long way in the tournament. Matt Pedrick (20 points) and Justin Lewis (11 points) led the way for Moorestown while Keenan Cannaday (16 points) was the leading scorer for Kingsway.
