High School Lacrosse: Tue., April 14, 1998
By Gary Steiner The Cherokee Chiefs and the Moorestown Quakers came together for a meeting of two undefeated teams. Cherokee had been picked by many preseason polls to be number one in South Jersey, so Moorestown had something to prove. The Quakers also remembered how the Chiefs knocked them out of the playoffs last year. The Chiefs' Mo Henwood got off to a quick start with a goal on their first possession. But that did not discourage the Quakers, who came back with four unanswered goals by four different players (Andrea Collesidis, Kateri Linville, Kate Merriken, Kate Slotman). Cherokee finally scored for a second time with a goal by Erin O'Hagan just before the half ended. The Quakers' defense tightened up even more in the second half. They opened up their lead with two more goals by Kate Slotman. Cherokee was only able to score one more time, with a shot by Cheryl Back, who had been double teamed all day. The Quakers put the exclamation point on the game by scoring another set of four unanswered goals (Andrea Collesidis, Becca Lippincott, Kate Merriken, Colleen Connors), to put the final score at 10-3.
