High School Soccer:
Life Center Academy Girls Still Undefeated

Tuesday, October 16, 2001

The girls took their 9-0 record on the road today to play a league game against Villa Victoria 7-1. Their only loss coming at the hands of Life Center Academy. Life Center is on its way to their best season ever in their schools history. Like the boys who are 12-1, the girls are showing the boys that they too are a force to reckon with also.

This team has no weak spots, the back field consist of Kim Barera (stopper, senior), Tracy Hatcher (sweeper, senior), Marissa Mohrmann (fullback, junior) and Ashley Birney (fullback, freshmen). In the middle we have Jessica Keane (halfback, senior), Melinda Hinson (Halfback, and goalie junior), Stefanie Bodrog, and Helen Brown (both center halfbacks, seniors) who are former Barons players. These two girls in the center control the pace and attack of the game. They seem to read each others minds because they always seem to be where they are needed. They are also two of the most generous girls you ever want to meet. They could very well drive the ball up field and take shots on goal, but instead they feed the ball up to waiting strikers. These two young ladies do a terrific job of controlling the game.

The girls in the front are Amy Corson (junior) and Jackie Steffen (sophomore) And of course Sarah Lewis (Goalie, junior). The front line works perfectly with the middle. LCA's little bombshell 5'1" Jackie Steffen (21 goals) got her fourth hat trick for the season, has proven that you don't have to be six foot tall to excel in soccer. She is fast and has a deadly foot. Goalies just don't get a second chance to make a save, she is right there to make them pay for any mistakes.

Most teams are happy to have at least one good goalie. LCA is fortunate to have two excellent goalies. In the ten games played so far this year only four goals have been scored against them. And since they are both juniors, that should help LCA next year to keep their winning ways. Other goals scored today were from Stefanie Bodrog and Jessica Keane.

Top scorers for LCA as of 10-16-01 are Jackie Steffen 21, Stefanie Bodrog 17, Helen Brown 12, Amy Corson 10, Jessica Keane 7 and Sarah Lewis and Sarah Lockley have four each. Tomorrow they go on to play Akiba. So this year soccer has come to Life Center Academy in a big way, both girls and boys should bring home Penn Jersey Championships and bring another first to this little Christian school. Head coach Tammy Nowicki and assistant Don Lewis are very proud to be the coaches for this very talented bunch of girls, and look forward to a strong finish.
