Two teams that have already secured a seed in the upcoming NJSIAA state tournament were Northern Burlington and Holy Cross. Today, they had an opportunity to compete in an inter-division Burlington County League field hockey game. For one half of this classic match up, neither team had an advantage on the scoreboard at intermission. Taking advantage of their situations, the Lady Lancers would score the only goals of the second half and posted a 3-1 victory over Northern Burlington. Lauren Hadam scored twice for Holy Cross.
Both of these teams have demonstrated their ability in working hard on the field in order to pick up wins by playing solid defense. There success in qualifying for the upcoming tournament has proven that. Despite goals scored by Danielle Terracciano for Northern Burlington and Hadam for the Lancers during the first half, the defense highlighted took center stage. Holy Cross would gain the edge during the early moments of the second half and were rewarded a penalty stroke that they took full advantage of. Hadam put the Lancers up by a 2-1 margin with her second goal of the game and Carly Kindbom would follow that performance with the Lancers’ third goal of the game. With the win, Holy Cross would increase their record to 15-2-2.
