High School Soccer:
Highland Dominates Oakcrest Early to Advance

It was very impressive the way this game started out. The fifth seeded Falcons from Oakcrest were a team not to take lightly as they have demonstrated on several occasions during the regular season that they could score goals. Highland took that knowledge seriously and began to apply pressure on the defense and were quickly rewarded. Joe Cullen was unstoppable for Highland scoring four goals in this quarterfinal South Jersey Group III boy’s soccer game. The Tartans would defeat Oakcrest 6-1 and advance to the next round against the top seeded Red Raiders from Ocean City.

Highland quickly showed their dominance by physically pushing their way into Oakcrest’s end of the field. Most of the first half would see the Falcon’s trying their best to get the ball to the other end of the field. Tony LaVigna would reward the Tartans for their hard work by scoring the first goal of the game. Cullen would get into the scorers column three minutes later and Highland would quickly own a 2-0 lead. Cullen’s four goals and LaVigna’s two scores highlighted this game for Highland. The Falcons would avoid the shutout by scoring a late goal by leading scorer Leonard Okoth.
