Highland has gotten off to a quick start this season posting a very respectable 5-1-1 record in the Tri-County Conference Royal Division. With the Salem Rams boy's soccer team into town, the Tartans knew if they played well early, they could dominated the struggling Rams and not give them any momentum to build on. Using their speed and determination, the Tartans kept the pressure on the defenders looking for that momentum. Sean Mergenthal took care of that early in the game when his goal quickly put Highland ahead and eventually on their way to a 5-1 victory.
The Tartans have winning those games they were expected to win. Their only loss was to Delsea by a 2-1 margin and in that game, they had created good scoring chances but were not able to find that much needed score. Not making that mistake today, Highland relied on Mergenthal and his big time play getting past his defender for the clear shot and goal. Mergenthal had another chance in the early minutes when his shot sailed over the net, but did not give up as he earned the assist on Mike Cullen's goal. Pat Faulls, Colin Davis and Mergenthal's second goal finished the scoring for Highland. Chad Waddington scored the lone goal for Salem.
