The South Jersey Group III baseball tournament began with two neighboring school competing against one another. It wasn’t much of a travel, but the Chargers from Timber Creek visited Highland High School to take on the Tartans baseball team. Highland had earned the fifth seed and was looking to advance to the next round against Williamstown. The Chargers took charge of this game scoring once in the first and twice in the third inning to score enough runs to advance. Mike Cummings picked up the win for Timber Creek, seeded twelfth, and earned the rights to play in the next round with their 6-2 win.
Leadoff batter Bodkin led off the game with a base hit for Timber Creek. That would lead to Bodkin scoring an unearned run. He would also lead off the third inning with a walk and then score on Justin McCulley’s two run double giving the Chargers a 3-0 lead. That lead would swell up to 5-0 when Joe Pavoni belted a two out, two run double. Cummings started the game with four straight strikeouts and finished the game with 13 for the game.
