Shawnee Wins On The Road

Shawnee's girls' basketball team defeated Highland in an Olympic Conference game. The Renegades went on a 10-0 run in the second quarter to pull away for good for a 44-31 win at Highland High School. The Lady Tartans would play Shawnee tough for 3 of the 4 quarters but could not overcome an 11-point deficit in the third quarter.

Renegades' senior guard Shannon Mulholland was the floor general who was able to break down any pressure by Highland guards. Once Mulholland got the ball across the mid-court, that's when Christina Canelli would go to work. She would work hard to gain position down low and post up her defender and score two with her inside moves. Whitney Ebbeson would also be a key factor in the second quarter and contributed in the scoring. Both Ebbeson and Mulholland would account for 11 of the 13 points scored to take a 21-14 halftime lead.

The Lady Tartans would cut the lead to within five points with 3:35 remaining in the third quarter when first year Coach Dan McGettigan applied the full court press. But again the Renegades would respond with Canelli inside the paint. The Renegades returned the favor by applying the press and expand their lead to 10 points at the end of the third quarter. They would hold that lead for the remainder of the final quarter to continue on their winning ways. Christina Canelli finished with 16, Whitney Ebbeson had 10 points and Brooke Kelly had 9 for Shawnee. Susan Grillo led Highland with 10 points.
