Gloucester Catholic was not happy with just making it to the South Jersey Parochial B championship game. The Rams won a very competitive game against Bishop Eustace on Saturday by rallying their way into the finals. This game would bring them one step away from adding another title for their school and a very successful coaching staff led by Dennis Barth. The players would responded in a big way late in their game against St. Rose at Washington Township scoring two runs in the sixth inning. Those runs would give Gloucester Catholic a 4-2 win and send the Rams on the field in celebration.
When Scott Ward smacked a solo home run during the top of the second inning to give the Rams a 1-0 lead, it seemed as if that run was the start of good things to come. But St. Rose did not make it to this game by luck. They were the number one seeded team in the bracket and got to the finals by downing Moorestown Friends. St. Rose would respond to Ward’s round tripper by scoring to single runs in the bottom of the second and third innings that was highlighted by Pat Reynolds home run.
After Hal Batdorf came through with a double during the top of the fourth inning to tie this game, Gloucester Catholic would put the finishing touches on their title run during the sixth inning. John McMullin laced a triple scoring the go ahead run. Hal Batdorf adding an extra run with his double, scoring McMullin and giving Gloucester Catholic their two run win.
