Every team would like to pick up that first win on the first day that the season begins. It’s not a big disappointment if your teams doesn’t win during that game, but it’s one that team would like to forget quickly. For the Cougars from Schalick and the Lions from Gloucester City, both were looking to pick up that first win of the season in a Tri-County Conference Classic Division. During the first half of this game, the two teams played evenly and this game would be decided in the second half. Gloucester City’s Lauren Ross would break the deadlock with a goal halfway through the period and the defense would hold on to pick up the 2-1 victory.
When Steph Pacitti scored Schalick’s first goal of the game and the Cougars were looking to add to their advantage. But a goal scored by Kelly Cerrone gave Gloucester their first goal of the game. As defending champs, the Lions would rely on their experienced players to pick up their play. Ross was one of those players who played a big part of Gloucester’s success would come through big when it counted. Off of a penalty corner, Ross found the back of the cage to score the eventual game winner and pick up Gloucester’s first win of the season.
