High School Soccer: Tuesday, October 31, 2006 By Jerome Michaels You've heard it before, but it never gets old. The playoff is a new season where every team starts out with no wins and no losses. The eleventh seeded Gators from Gateway knew they had to play well in order to come away with a win at Delran. Joe Kane put a damper on Gateway's hopes as he scored a minute and fifty seconds into this game. The Gators would battle back but the sixth seeded Bears continued to stay one step ahead of their opponent by keeping the pressure on the defense. Delran would jump ahead during the second half for good and with this game by a 4-2 margin. |
High School Soccer: Thursday, October 12, 2006 By Joyce Sagerty It was a game that had to be earned. When Audubon's girls' soccer team took the field today, they knew they had to continue to play well in order to extend their unbeaten streak to fourteen straight games. Also at stake was another chance at claiming the Colonial Conference Patriot Division championship. Standing in their way of accomplishing those goals were the Lady Gators from Gateway who played an outstanding game of soccer against the Green Wave. These two teams were unable to score a goal during regulation and through the first overtime session. The game winning goal finally would be scored when a header by Ashley Cannon caught everyone by surprise and Audubon would begin to celebrate capturing their third straight title. |
High School Softball: Monday, May 15, 2006 By Stephanie Wright With so much focus on teams qualifying for the playoffs, coaches whose teams that have fallen short of the requirements must continue to motivate their players and achieve a different set of goals. For Haddon Heights and Gateway, their chance to move into the state tournament may be over but the regular season must go on. The Lady Garnets finally ended their two game losing streak when they traveled to Gateway to participate in an Colonial Conference softball game. Bobbi Padget would pitch her way to an 8-1 victory for Haddon Heights giving up just two hits. |
High School Softball: Thursday, April 6, 2006 By Susan Hall Every season, there are always several teams that start off the season on a winning note that surprises a few people. One of those teams getting noticed early would be the Thundering Herd from Woodbury. Freshman pitcher Liz Carter has helped Woodbury's softball team begin the season win their first three games of the season and she has done so not just with her pitching. Before today's game against Gateway, the freshman hurler picked up the win as the starting pitcher and recorded a home run in each of those games. Against the Gators, Carter would not record her third home run of the season, but she would be on the winning side of a 14-0 victory. Woodbury has improved to 3-0 on the season. |
High School Field Hockey: Monday, October 17, 2005 By Susan Hall There were eleven players from both teams on the field today looking to add another win to their standings. For both Gateway and Lindenwold, their focus has switched from extending their season into the playoffs to picking up as many wins they can with the regular season coming to an end. Well the Lady Gators from Gateway scored the first goal of the game and led at intermission. Lindenwold would work they way into tying this game early in the second half. But when the final second was counted down, the two teams would finish this game in a tie. |
High School Football: Monday, October 10, 2005 By George Brookings Sometimes you just got to do what you got to do. It seem as if the rain just would not end this weekend leaving the decision to reschedule the game between Gateway and Haddon Heights to another available day. Well that day happened to be a holiday for most and the Garnets would host Gateway in a Colonial Conference Patriot divisional game. Haddon Heights did what they had to do during the second half of this game on defense as they watched their lead diminish during the final quarter. Gateway had lined up their offense looking to tie the game on a two point conversion, but the Garnets would watch that pass fall incomplete. Haddon Heights would hold on to their slim lead the rest of the way and defeat the Gators 14-12. |
