McCorristin boy's basketball program has been successful so far this season entering the Burlington County League Freedom Division. Known as the Iron Mikes, McCorristin has been getting noticed by winning their first 4 games with Florence standing in the way of making it five straight. Florence, also undefeated, had the home court advantage but not the momentum. The Iron Mikes behind a balanced scoring attack posted a 60-56 road victory.
Florence would fall behind right from the start as McCorristin jumped out to an early first quarter lead. The Iron Mikes took advantage of early mistakes to open a double-digit lead behind the play of Donnell Henly, Brian Sakowski, Kareem Smith and the rest of the players. Florence would pull within six points before the half despite shooting poorly from the free throw line.
The second half started with McCorristin establishing another comfortable lead. The Flashes would yet again make another run behind the shooting of Talbert Woodall and hustle of Maurice Calhoun. In the end, McCorristin would hold on for the four point victory. Donnell Henly had a team high 14 points, Brian Sakowski and Kareem Smith each added 12 points while Kevin Velliard dropped in 10 points. Florence was lead by Talbert Woodall's 16 game high points, Jorron Jenkins scored 13 points and Maurice Calhoun added 11 points.
