High School Golf: Tuesday, April 11, 2000
By Boog Williams On what was to be a day of rain by the weather forecasters ended up being a so-so day for golf. With cloudy skies, dampness in the air, and a strong breeze, the Edgewood Eagles faced off against the Cherry Hill West Lions at Pinelands Golf Course. The Eagles were missing two of their top golfers, but the other players that did show went out and played a great round of golf, giving first year head coach Mr. Felton Jones his first win. It was also Edgewood's first win of the year. On the first tee, Edgewood's Chris Hunt hit the ball right down the middle of the fairway, as did partner Blair Weir, on a dog leg to the right. Cherry Hill's Voon Hong looked like he tried to cut the corner, but didn't make it. Hong's partner, Tony Owings, hit the fairway. The next group that followed was Edgewood's Andy Schmidt and Nick Cipriani. West had Mike Tily and Andy Maggio tee off. On the fourth green, Voon Hong made a nice shot out of the trap (see video). Also, on the fourth green, Edgewood's Chris Hunt 2-put to score a 5 (see video). The group moved to the 5th tee, where you can see videos of the top group teeing off. Here are the results of the par 36 at Pinelands.
On 4-12-00 Edgewood beat Gloucester Twp. Tech with a score of 216 to 200. Ian Denholm contributed to this article. Photos by Boog Williams |
