High School Softball: Wednesday, April 21, 1999
By Bob Stewart The Gloucester Catholic Rams traveled to Edgewood to play a softball game. The weather did not cooperate in the first couple of innings, as a light rain fell. This had the pitchers and umpires trying to keep the balls dry. In the first inning, with two outs and the bases loaded, Gloucester Catholic scored an unearned run. This was the 32nd unearned run given up by Edgewood this year. Edgewood's pitcher, Lindsay Creaney, struck out Catholic's next batter to end an inning that could have been much worse for the Eagles. The Ram's pitcher, Allison Moraca, did not give up a hit in bottom of the first. The second inning was scoreless. In the third inning, both teams scored two runs to make it a score of Catholic 3 - Edgewood 2. The fourth inning was also scoreless. In the fifth, the Ram's scored 3 runs to take a 6 - 2 lead. In the sixth inning, Edgewood scored two to make it Catholic 6 - Edgewood 4. In the seventh, Catholic didn't score and the momentum leaned towards Edgewood. The Eagles scored only one more run, and the game ended with a final tally of Gloucester Catholic 6 - Edgewood 5. Allison Moraca outlasted Lindsay Creaney for the win. In the game, three players hit doubles: Tara Debes and Laure Burman for Gloucester Catholic, and for Edgewood, Alexis Switenko. Gloucester Catholic had 11 hits and 3 errors, while Edgewood had 8 hits and 5 errors. Photos by Boog Williams
