High School Field Hockey: Wednesday, October 14, 1998
By Pam Gargano The Edgewood field hockey team traveled to rival school Overbrook in a must win situation against the Rams. The Eagles came out strong, dominating Overbrook the entire game. Sophomore and leading goal scorer, Bethie Henhaffer, knocked in her 5th of the season and Senior Ali Pires scored her 3rd leading the defense was senior goalie Lisa Mohrmann, recording her second shut-out of the season. After this win, the Eagles were back in the playoff chase. They held this momentum up to the next game against Camden Catholic. Unfortunately, the game was canceled due to rain. The Eagles hosted their next game against Cherry Hill West on a rainy Saturday afternoon following SAT's. The team came out flat, losing to West 1-0. The loss to West gave the Eagles an almost impossible chance of making the States Tournament. They needed a big win against 9th ranked Triton. Edgewood came out on fire shocking the Spartans on their home field. They came out dominating with goals by Junior, Karin Rainey and Ali Pires in the first half. The defense stepped it up in the final half winning the game 2-1. Defense was lead by Senior Captain Beckie Goobic, and Senior Michael-Lin Tronco. This win over Triton gives Edgewood their hope back. They need to end the season strongly against tough teams like Bishop Eustace, Lenape, and Shawnee. The Eagles need to be .500 by October 23rd to make it into the post season. They are currently 3-5-2. Photos from Cherry Hill West vs. Edgewood Photos by Boog Williams
