High School Baseball: Monday, April 19, 1999
By Boog Williams This was to be the opening game for both teams, but the weather did not cooperate back on April 1st. The game was rescheduled for April 19th at Edgewood. The high powered varsity team of Bishop Eustace defeated Edgewood by the score of 18-5. In the top of the 1st, Edgewood's pitcher (#4 Peiffer, who worked 1 2/3 innings) had a hard time hitting the strike zone. He walked the bases loaded. Next batter, the cleanup hitter, hit into a force play at second, which scored the first run. This lead to two more runs as Bishop Eustace jumped out to a 3-0 lead. In the bottom of the 1st, Bishop Eustace's pitcher (#27 George, who worked 4 innings) had no trouble finding the strike zone. He struck out the first batter for Edgewood. The second batter ripped a grounder to third that went off the third baseman's leg for an infield hit. George struck out the next batter, walked the fourth, and got the fifth to fly out to deep left center. The second inning saw Edgewood walk the first batter. The next batter hit a triple to right center field to make the score 4-0. The other pitchers for Edgewood were Wolf (2 innings) and Nunnenkamp (1 1/3). Edgewood scored all five runs in the last inning (5th). The game ended with the score Bishop Eustace 18 - Edgewood 5. Photos by Boog Williams In the JV game, Edgewood extended its unbeaten streak to 5 wins. Edgewood JV is now 5-0. Edgewood defeated Bishop Eustace 5-2. Edgewood scored all of their runs in the bottom of the 1st. The pitchers for Edgewood were Tolomeo (4 innings) getting the win and Heritage (3 innings) getting the save.
