Rory Levinson and Dan Drazen scored two goals each as Eastern came back and defeated Paul VI 7-4 in high school ice hockey excitement at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. Coming off a loss to Williamstown on Friday night, Eastern rebounded nicely and battled all night in this seesaw affair. Drazen got things going early scoring in the opening two minutes of the game. After Paul VI tied the score at 1-1 on a goal by Zack Booth, Chris Ball put home a rebound of a shot by Levinson to give the Vikings a 2-1 lead heading into the second period.
In a span of six minutes of the second period, from the five-minute mark to the eleven-minute mark, the teams combined for a total of six goals. Paul VI scored two goals within nine seconds to take a 3-2 lead as John Commoroto and Dustin Isbert connected. Eastern then tied the game on the power play as Derrick Schemmel scored with assists going to Drazen and Anthony Grey. Speaking of the power play Paul VI was 0-6 with the man advantage and needs to improve on the power play if they want to advance in the tournament. After Erik Pollag scored on a rebound at the nine-minute mark to give Paul VI its last lead at 4-3, Torin Lawson and Drazen scored just over a minute apart to put Eastern up 5-4 after two periods. Levinson scored his two goals in the third period, one early to give Eastern some breathing room at 6-4, and then one late on the power play to ice the game at 7-4.
Notes: These two teams could be opening round opponents as Paul VI has played more games than anyone and will probably finish around sixth or seventh. Hopefully this is the only Vikings team that beats an Eagle team this week.
