Sean Sullivan scored four goals and Joey Johnston added two as Eastern stunned Rancocas Valley with an 11-1 thrashing at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. Coming into the game having suffered just one loss, Rancocas was out to prove that their record was no fluke. However, Eastern scored four goals in the first period and never looked back. The Vikings took advantage of defensive breakdowns capitalizing on odd-man rushes and converting power play opportunities.
Johnston opened the scoring on a slap shot from the point through a screened Chelsea Ward. Sullivan, left all alone on the side of the goal, made it 2-0 on the power play. After Frank Luciano scored on a breakaway to cut the lead to 2-1, Eastern got that one right back again scoring on the power play to make it 3-1. Brandon Tunstall and Anthony Orner broke in together with one-man back and Tustall ripped a shot that beat Ward and the Vikings headed into the second period with a 4-1 lead.
Eastern then blew the game open scoring four goals in a five minute span, two by Sullivan and one by Chris Ball and Johnston’s second and suddenly it was 8-1. Rancocas needs to rebound quickly as they play Cherokee next and will need a better effort defensively. Orner, Sullivan and Rich DeMonte closed out the scoring.
