Shawnee and Eastern played to a 5-5 tie in SJHSIHL action on Monday night at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. After battling the league leader Clearview last week with a shortened bench, Coach Pontonio welcomed back some key players. Sean Sullivan would score twice and Anthony Orner notched a goal. Jeff Hoffner paced Shawnee, who was looking for their first win, with two goals. After Sullivan scored a short-handed goal to give Eastern a 1-0 lead, Hoffner tied the game at 1-1 after picking off an errant pass.
Mike Frohberg gave Eastern a 2-1 lead after Sullivan and Orner were jamming at the puck along the side of the net; the puck came out front to Frohberg who was able to deposit it into the net. That lead did not last as Reese Stern tied it at 2-2 as he converted a feed from Bill Fawley. Late in the first period, as Shawnee was breaking out of the zone, Joe DiLauro made a nice play to keep the puck in and Orner found the back of the net for a 3-2 lead. That lead lasted seventeen seconds into the second period. Lenny Burkhardt scored on a breakaway for Shawnee to tie the game at 3-3.
Hoffner and Sullivan exchanged goals and after two periods it was tied at 4-4. Eastern took the lead at 5-4 as with Chris Leig scoring after a feed from Orner and Sullivan. Fawley brought Shawnee back as he worked hard to get loose and wristed a shot just under the crossbar to tie the game at 5-5 midway through the period. Eastern had a power play late in the game but failed to capitalize.
