Tom Fadako scored four goals and freshman goalie Dan Meyers stopped all fifteen shots as the Eastern Vikings defeated Cherry Hill East 7-0 in a game played at the Skate Zone in Voorhees on Monday night. With nine new faces on the team, Viking coach Mike Pontonio has his work cut out for him. He still has one of the quickest skaters in Mike Becker and with Meyers, along with last year starter Mike Keppler two solid goalies.
It was Becker who generated the first goal as he skated from behind the net and tried to score short-side. With Fadako camped in front, he jammed in the rebound and just two minutes into the game it was 1-0. Cherry Hill had an opportunity to tie the score as they had a two-man advantage for almost two full minutes but could only muster one shot on net. The Vikings made it 2-0 as Brett Piccotti scored on a feed from Mike Purwin, who picked off a clearing pass and hit Piccotti at the top of the circle.
Fadako scored two unassisted goals one at the end of the period and the other at the beginning; both on turnovers and Eastern led 4-0. Through two periods the shots were 28-8 in favor of the Vikings. It wasn't until the third period that Cherry Hill tested Meyers but he stood strong and goals by Fadako, Purwin and Becker closed out the scoring at 7-0.
