High School Wrestling: Thursday, February 17, 2000
By Vincent Lewis Just over four weeks ago, Eastern defeated the Washington Township wrestling team which gave them the confidence of capturing the South Jersey Group 4 title. On Thursday, Township removed that memory by convincingly defeating Eastern 41-24 at Eastern High School. Mike Lotierzo and Brian Brittingham each recorded pins for Washington Township to win the contest. As this match got underway, the subject buzzing around in the crowd was the question of could Eastern show their home fans they could defeat Township again. Eastern defeated Lenape in the semi-finals match on Tuesday, but the Vikings had things turned around on them as they got behind early in the championship match. Dave Tomasette dominated Chris Saviano in the 103 lb. match, 16-1, which set the tone of the night for the Vikings. After Township's Jeff Smith defeated Josh Feller 2-0 in an excellent match, Clinton Hicks won by forfeit to bring Eastern the closest they were going to be all night. The first 4 of 5 matches were won by Washington Township, that started the landslide. This night belonged to the visiting team and gave Washington Township their second title in three years.
