Two talented pitchers went head to head this afternoon at Deptford High School. It was a match-up against the Lady Spartans hosting Gloucester Catholic. These Tri-County Conference Royal Division opponents featured Brianne Tobin for the Lady Rams going up against Nicole Ayers. Both have been very successful early on this season. On this day, Tobin strikeout 14 batters and Gloucester Catholic went on to defeat Deptford by a 6-1 margin. The lone run for the Spartans came off the bat of Ayers.
Deptford had not allowed a single runner cross home plate so far this season winning their first 4 games. Deptford was looking to rebound from their one run loss to Woodstown yesterday. During that game, Deptford watched their opponents score three times for the first time this season. Gloucester Catholic has also been impressive behind the pitching of Tobin. The Lady Rams have shut down the opposing teams winning their first 3 games.
After a scoreless first 2 innings, Gloucester Catholic got the first runs of the game during the top of the third inning. Taking advantage of some timely walks, the Rams were able to capitalize scoring two runs. Now down by three heading into the bottom of the fourth inning, Ayers gave Deptford some momentum with her solo home run and only trailed by 3-1. But Gloucester Catholic continued to put runs on the scoreboard and walked away with the road victory.
