The game of soccer has been labeled by some people as a sport which is emotion-based with physical demands that requires endurance and explosiveness. When you get that type of performance out of each player on the field, nothing but good things can come from that type of play. The Bulldogs from Haddonfield had the momentum in their favorite but not the advantage on the scoreboard early in the contest. Well, not until the second half of this Group 2 title game at Delran High School. Haddonfield scored the only goal in this game by Paul Reiss giving the Bulldogs the 2002 championship.
The Group 2 bracket finished the way you would expect as the top 2 seeds made it to finals. Both of these teams started out with a bye in the first round. The top-seeded Bears from Delran got to today's game with wins over Burlington Township and the ever so dangerous West Deptford Eagles. Haddonfield defeated both Manchester Township and Buena by the score of 2-1 and were ready for another one goal game.
The Bulldogs were mentally up for the challenge of which team would be able to concentrate and compose themselves over an extended period of time. Haddonfield proved to be the team that was able to cope emotionally under Delran relentless pressure. The alone goal of this game came in the second half with 30:32 remaining in the game. Reiss' unbelievable goal was the game winning lifting Haddonfield past a determined Delran squad.
