When you take a look back on the entire first round results of the South Jersey Group II bracket of the field hockey competition, the four games finished in a tightly played match indicating it would not be an easy trip to the finals. All of the top four teams were waiting for the results of those games leaving third seeded Collingswood hosting Haddonfield who defeated their opponent by a single goal. In these games, a single goal could mean a lot as not too many goals are needed to win with the defenses dominating the play. These two teams just could not decide a winner after regulation and two overtime periods. Collingswood would win the shootout by a 3-1 margin advancing the Panthers to the next round against second seeded West Deptford.
During the regular season, Collingswood and Haddonfield combined for a total of four goals scored. The first meeting between the two resulted in a 1-1 draw and the Lady Panthers would prevail the second time by shutting out the Bulldogs by a 2-0 score. This second round meeting would be another closely matched game.
Collingswood would score the first goal of the game when Stefanie Bucholski scored during the first half. The defense would hold onto that lead up until halftime, but it would quickly disappear at the start of the second half. Kristin Snyder’s goal early on evened the score and that’s when the defenses took over. Both team had chances to put their team ahead, but none of those chances officially put another goal on the scoreboard. After two overtime periods and no winner yet declared, the shootout began and ended with Collingswood winning by a 3-1 on penalty shots by Bucholski, Kacey Ehret and Vicki Roddy.
