Clearview scored three goals in the second period, breaking a 1-1 tie as they defeated St. Joe’s 5-3 in Tier 1 action on Friday night. Jim Sprinkle, Wyatt Fox and Steve Short had a goal and an assist each. Sprinkle scored the only goal of the first period on a feed from Fox, splitting the defense. After Rich Hohenberger tied the game at 1-1 scoring short-handed, on the same penalty, Clearview re-took the lead. Mike Wolk scored from the slot as he swatted at the puck after falling to his knees. Goals by Short and Fox seem to put Clearview in command with a 4-1 lead after two periods.
Despite its youth and lack of depth, St. Joe’s never quit and goals by Kristopher Anderson and Ryan McHugh sandwiched between a goal by Bill Dunbar brought St. Joe’s to within 5-3. Dressing 8 freshman, this team continues to improve and although they could get no closer, this is a good game to build on.
