After jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the first period, Clearview needed an empty net goal by Jon Probe to secure a 4-2 win over Cherokee. Played in front of a sparse crowd on Friday night at Hollydell, Clearview dominated the first period playing to their strength, which is forechecking and speed. Mike Sullivan gave Clearview a 1-0 lead picking up a loose puck in the slot, after some good pressure to keep the puck in the zone. Late in the period with each team skating four skaters, Nick Vacarino threaded a pass to Chris Riggs, and his breakaway goal made it 2-0. Just over a minute later and still skating four aside, Probe setup Brian Smith in front and Clearview led 3-0 after the first period.
Clearview seemed to abandon their style and over the next two periods Cherokee carried much of the play, starting with the second period. Brandon McCarty unleashed a laser shot from the point twenty seconds into the period to cut the lead to 3-1. Then with just under three minutes remaining in the second period after an offensive possession that lasted almost two minutes, Sean Zahaczewski from behind the net fed Danny Altieri in the slot and his quick shot made it 3-2 heading into the final period. But Cherokee could not find the equalizer in the third period and Probe ended any hopes with six seconds left.
