Clearview scored four power play goals and also played disciplined hockey as they defeated Eastern 6-1 in the game one of the semi-finals. David Gooch had two goals, his brother Mike added a goal and two assists for Clearview while Mike Becker scored the lone goal for the Vikings. David Gooch scored both goals in the first period both on the power play. He skated in and faked out goal keeper Ramsay and slid the puck into the empty net to make it 1-0 at the ten-minute mark. Less than three minutes later it was 2-0 as Rob Coble fed Gooch and he drilled the puck into the net.
Clearview seems to be peaking at the right time and the key to their success will be staying out of the penalty box. They have enough talent and solid goaltending to challenge Township for the title. Early in the second period it was Mike Gooch's turn as he fore checked behind the net and fed Gunnar Fox in the slot to make it 3-0. Later in the period on the power play, Fox returned the favor as he fed Gooch to make it 4-0. Becker scored late in the period, but Eastern trailed 4-1 heading into the third period.
Goals by Coble on the power play and Ryan Arnold short-handed sealed the 6-1 victory for Clearview. It's up to Coach Pontonio to figure out a way to generate some offense this series or it will be over quickly.
