Mike Gooch scored twice, Rob Coble and Mike Cargill also tallied as Clearview defeated Cherry Hill East 4-0 in a quarterfinal game played Friday night at Hollydell. With the win, Clearview moved into the semi-finals in a rematch from last year against the Eastern Vikings. After a scoreless first period which saw Clearview shorthanded for the last six minutes, Gooch scored in the first minute of the second period beating East goalie Brandon Ramsay to give Clearview the 1-0 lead. Ramsay was the lone bright spot for East, as he kept his team close for most of the game. East's offense could only muster fourteen shots on goal.
After Mike Cargill gave Clearview a 2-0 lead at the nine minute mark, East's best scoring opportunity came when Jared Wallace broke in all alone. Wallace's shot attempt was stoned by another Jared, goaltender Weisenbach. Moments later with Clearview on the power play, Coble went end-to-end and faked Ramsay to the ice and slid the puck into the empty net to make it 3-0 heading into the final period. A forward last year, Coach Sullivan has put Coble on defense and his speed has helped solidify a once weak area. Gooch closed out the scoring early in the third as Clearview advances with the 4-0 shutout.
