High School Boys Basketball: Tuesday, December 21, 1999
By Brad Payne Clearview and Salem, both coming off pretty easy wins over the weekend, met Tuesday night in the Pioneers' gym. The game had an uptempo beat in the first quarter, with the score being tied at 10. Dan Fellona stepped up and scored 8 of the Pioneers first ten points. The Pioneers battled hard in the second quarter as well, knotting it up at 20 at the half. In the beginning of the second half, Salem came out strong and pulled out ahead of Clearview. In the forth quarter, the Pioneers still fought back and with less than 3 minutes to go, narrowed the Salems lead to 2 at 52-50. Then, what Clearview never wanted to see occured. Matt Mesmer fouled out with about 3 minutes left. Ben Spoerl came off the bench and fouled out soon after. Salem added some free throws to seal the 59-50 victory. For Clearview, Danny Fellona scored a game high 23 points with Mesmer adding 12 and Payne adding 10.
