The Minutemaids started out this game as if they were rushing out of the doors on the last day of school. But this was the season opener and Washington Township showed that they were ready to play. Standing in their way were the Lady Lions from Cherry Hill West. Township took full advantage of their corner opportunities and took a 3-0 lead during the first half. The Lions would respond early during the second half, but this day would belong to the Minutemaids. Sherri Fort and Megan Scarpinato both scored two goals apiece and Washington Township would reward themselves with a 5-1 victory in Olympic Conference play.
Rachel Bram scored the game’s first goal when Washington Township applied pressure on the defense right at the start of this game. Continuing to keep the ball in Cherry Hill’s zone, Township was awarded one of many penalty corners and was able to extend their lead to 2-0 when Fort deposited the ball into the back of the cage. Scarpinato finished the first half scoring when some nice passing gave Township a three goal lead. Kellyn Riley gave Cherry Hill West their first goal of the game during the opening moments of the second half. But later, Fort and Scarpinato each scored a goal and Township would enjoy their first win of the season.
