It was a basketball tournament that both Cherry Hill boys' basketball teams had a chance to reach the finals. Competing against the Thunderbolts from Millville in the Virginia Whitaker Classic tournament held at Cherry Hill East, Cherry Hill West's early lead had diminished against Millville. Ian Davis' effort down the stretch helped the Lions go ahead for good. The defense would pick up helping West preserve their 68-63 win and advance to the tournament finals against Cherry Hill East.
With the holiday tournaments finally behind them, the Lions were ready to take on the local teams. Back to back losses against South Jersey teams evened their record and Millville stood in their way of restoring their winning ways. The Thunderbolts jumped out to an early five point advantage at the start of the second quarter, but that’s when West would come back by knocking down a couple of three pointers. The Lions would regain the lead and held a 26-24 lead at halftime.
Tyron Johnson, who finished with a game high 24 points, and D'Andre Holden both kept Millville in this game especially during the second half. But it would be Davis' shot that put West ahead for good late in the fourth quarter that would give the Lions their third win of the season. Davis led the Lions with 21 points, Marko Smojver chipped in 19 and Chris Gebhart added 10 points for Cherry Hill West. To go with Johnson’s game high points, Holden dropped in 18 points for Millville.
