High School Basketball: Cherry Hill West Gets By Pennsauken in Group IV Action Monday, March 3, 2003 By Crystal Parker It has been a very exciting season for the Lady Lions from Cherry Hill West girl's basketball teams. Finishing the season with a 15-7 record, West would start out their tournament run with a 39-29 victory over the Lady Indians from Pennsauken. Last year, the Lions were seeded lower in the South Jersey Group IV playoff bracket and were knocked out of the tournament in the first round. This year was a different story as the Lions, seeded seventh this year, won their first round playoff game since 1998 after beating Jackson Memorial. Cherry Hill West will now travel to the second seeded Toms River North. On this day, the shots just would not fall for the Lady Indians. Pennsauken looked to have the early advantage during the first half, but the score did not reflect their efforts. At the half, the teams were tie at 16 all. Meanwhile for Cherry Hill West, the Lady Lions were finding ways to make the ball go through the hoop no matter how many opportunities it took to score points. West would find a way to pull away from Pennsauken in the second half to advance to the next round of the tournament. Taylore Wallace led the scoring for Cherry Hill West as the Lions look to continue their winnings ways in the next round of the Group IV 2002-2003 bracket. |
