Cherry Hill West traveled to Highland on a day when not only did the temperatures go from warm to cold but also the players. Starting pitcher Mike DiPiero for West cooled off the Tartans recording eight strikeouts through four inning and hold a 3-run lead. Highland would tie the game in the sixth to send the game into extra innings. Jeff Potter would get his third hit of the game to record his third RBI that scored the game winning run to defeat Highland 6-4 in eight innings.
Throughout this game, West showed how important it is to get the leadoff batter on base. Every inning Cherry Hill West (4-0) got the first batter of the inning on base, they scored. Reid Briglia led the game off with a walk and scored in the first inning on Jeff Potter's single. Briglia would knock in Tim Basford who also led off the second inning with a base on balls. Tim Querns got on base in the third and yet again, Potter came through with a base hit down the third base line to record West's third run of the game.
Highland began to put runs on the scoreboard in the fifth and sixth innings. After scoring 2 runs in the fifth on RBI by Ben Lewitt and Carl Danenhower, Matt Calloway tied the game at four all when his single to left scored Vince Angeloni. Neither team could generate any offense in the seventh inning as they both only sent 3 players to the plate with no batters reaching base.
That all-important lead batter started off the eight inning for West when Chris Hutchinson reached base on an error and advanced to second. Hutchinson advanced to third on Graham's ground out to the second baseman. Tim Querns waited patiently to drive something deep, but instead drew a walk. Potter came through with a base hit to plate the go ahead run and on the play, Querns moved into scoring position. Ean McLoughlin's base hit finished out the scoring for Lions.
